A web site sponsored by present-day residents of Cottisford (Fordlow) and Juniper
Hill (Lark Rise) who share with many people round the world a warm affection
for Flora Thompson as revealed by her writings.
The Parish is not greatly changed since Flora’s time -
about a dozen new houses have been built, but the population is still well
under 200. Although Watford Cottage, where Flora Timms
was born, was swept away long ago several of the places she described in Lark
Rise can still be identified - the End House; Queenie’s Cottage; the former Fox
Inn (Wagon and Horses); the School; the Farm (in Fordlow);
the Rectory; Cottisford House where Squire Rousby (Mr Bracewell) lived; and
St Mary’s Church. All of these buildings are now private dwellings except, of
course, for the small church.
